Hearts-a-bustin (Euonymus americanus) is a native shrub that grows to a height of 6-10 feet at maturity. It blooms in late spring to early summer with small, inconspicuous greenish-white flowers. The flowers are followed by showy pink to red capsules that split open to reveal bright orange seeds in the fall. Hearts-a-bustin prefers partial to full shade and moist, well-drained soil. It is a good choice for woodland gardens or naturalized areas.
