Pickerelweed is a native perennial water plant that grows all throughout NC. In its natural environment it is found growing along sunny pond/lake shorelines. Pickerelweed can grow up to 3 feet tall and gets attractive purple blooms in summer. Pollinators love the flowers including hummingbirds. Pickerelweed can be grown in small backyard ponds, water gardens or containers filed with water at depths up to 12 inches deep. Keep the water depth below the pickerelweed leaves, to ensure proper water depths. A great addition to the garden.

Having even a small water feature in your garden is very important for wildlife. Adding some native water plants will create habitat and enhance biodiversity in your garden.
